About us

NewFinn is a collaboration between husband and wife team Josh and Melissa Boisvert. Together their Newfoundland and Finnish heritage merge in design. 

Joshua Boisvert - Artist and Craftsman 

Josh creates Inspired and Functional pieces and Design with true rare, raw talent and Newfie heart and soul. 

His career in Landscape Design specializing in rock work and his extensive knowledge horticulture led him to 6 years at a NH Winery and Vineyard where he discovered his inspiration from aged oak wine barrels from France and expanded his work with wood and metal. 

Joshes ancestry, character and creativity and soul trace back to his great grandfather, a dock builder in Newfoundland. It was fish that brought Europeans to Newfoundland and the fishing industry that laid down the foundation for the society that was built there. 

Newfoundland people have a reputation for being friendly and warm, resilient and hardy.  They are known for their natural creativity and deep connection to the land... And they love to have a good time, even if it’s just playing music in the kitchen.  Newfoundland is all about music.  Newfies are singing, whistling, humming or playing tunes all day and night. Songs of Sea Shanties and fishing.

Melissa Boisvert - Design

Daughter of two artists and growing up with their influences and her inherent creative mind for design, Melissa was born for this role and a perfect match for Josh. 

Melissa’s ancestry traces back to her family in northern Finland who built cabins on lakes, furniture and saunas. Her grandfather was a draftsman by trade, an artist and a craftsman. Finns are some of the most innovative and forward-thinking people in the world.

Finland is an amazing country that is rich in culture, history, and natural beauty with pristine forests and towering peaks, icy lakes and rushing rivers.

Finnish people are characterized as being honest, modest, humble, polite, and resilient…And stubborn. They can handle the harsh climate

especially because of its unforgiving geography in the far north. 

Finns have a reputation for reticence and thoughtfulness. They are quiet, reflective, somber and, for some, seemingly stubborn. “Sisu” There is a saying that when a Finn says something, they really mean it.
